What are homeopathic remedies made of?
Homeopathic remedies are generally made from minerals, plants and animals. Mostly, plants and animals are not harmed during the making of remedies. One flower, one leaf, few hairs or drops of milk from an animal may be enough to make a remedy. Vegetarians and vegans can safely use remedies. They are not tested on animals but they can safely be used with animals. (and also with babies, children and pregnant women)
Remedies are prepared in homeopathic laboratories, by a two part process. During this process the substance is diluted in water and then “succussed” (shaken rigorously). This gets rid of the toxic qualities of a substance and imprints the energy on the remedy.
As a result of this process, they are natural, non-toxic, non-invasive and without side effects. They can be in pellet or liquid form. Pellets look like small, white balls. They taste sweet because they are made with milk sugar. Since they are not in crude form like herbs, they all taste the same. The taste of the original substance does not remain.
Remedies are sold at homeopathic laboratories and health food stores. Some are sold over the counter and some only to practicing homeopaths.
“I don’t know what is in a homeopathic remedy, it makes me nervous”.
Most remedies are made from a single substance and some from a combination of two or three substances. Whatever the remedies are made of, the preparation process makes them dilute and safe. In most remedies, no trace of the original substance is left. This means we are only taking energy.
Just like we may not know what is in any medication we are given, we may not be familiar with the homeopathic substances. Feel free to ask your homeopath questions and discuss your thoughts and feelings regarding remedies.
All homeopathic remedies are FDA approved and some are sold over the counter. They don’t produce any side effects.
